Random September

My parents came to visit, which of course meant lots of games with the boys. My dad wakes up early, so when they're in town my boys wake up REALLY early to hang out with him.

I like to play a fun game with Mike. It's called, "Change my hair in a very noticeable way and see how long it takes him to notice." My husband has a lot of talents, but playing this game well isn't one of them. This time around I finally told him after four days. ;)

Mike and his mom were twinners, so I thought I'd take a picture.

The boys being boys.

This year Sarah decided to join the National Junior Honor Society. Neither of us knew what it was until last year, so she signed up at the beginning of this year. She's been doing tutoring once a week and they also do service projects and are required to give service on their own. We also took a picture of her in front of her award for Humanities student of the year from last year.

It's not a secret that we're all a little excited for Audrey's arrival. Sarah created this sign and has been updating it every day. (It's 11/3 as I write this and she kept it updated until Audrey was born and is now a countdown to her birthday)

Adam started scouts and earned a bunch of belt loops at camp.

Hill Air Force Museum

On Saturday we took a break from camping to visit Hill Air Force Museum. They were having a special day where they opened up the aircraft for people to see inside. The main even was the SR-71. The line for it was not only long, but it moved really slowly because the pilots inside allowed people to stay and ask as many questions as they wanted. Since there wasn't much I could do, I sat in a camping chair we brought while everyone looked at other airplanes.

I'll see if Mike took any other pics and add them.

Antelope Island Glamping trip

We wanted to get one last camping trip in before Audrey came, so we decided to go to Antelope Island. Mike and I have lived in Utah for most of our lives and yet neither of us had ever been. I was worried it would smell, but surprisingly when you're on the island it doesn't stink. We had sure to go after the bugs were mostly gone. Our friends the Pews joined us in their trailer. The main thing we all needed to see were buffalo of course and the island didn't disappoint.

Mike was the first one to lay down in the water and everyone else followed suit. I was impressed that even Sarah got in on the fun. I sat my comfortable pregnant self down on the beach and supported them from afar. :)

Cascade Springs

My ability to go on long hikes has diminished a bit, so we look for nice meandering strolls instead. We decided to look at some fall colors by driving to Cascade Springs. We hadn't been there in years. I wore one of my favorite pregnancy shirts and it's always fun to see people smile when they read it.

After the walk we took the kids to Pizza Pie Cafe, because they love all buffets. Between gorging themselves on pizza and pasta they watched Studio C on a TV in the corner. Big win for a fun family night.

What's up peaches?!

Last year Mike and I attended a fruit tree pruning class in hopes of learning how to take care of our trees. We pruned our peach tree heavily this spring and it went crazy with peaches. We got SO many. Mike and Sarah helped me to "can" them, and we got quite the harvest. We learned a lot about when to do it and what to look for. Now we get to eat lots of peach crisp. Mmmm...

Audrey's Room

As soon as we decided to have another baby I started to design the nursery. I had a boy theme, complete with airplanes of course, and a cute girl theme. Once we found out we were having a girl I deleted all the boy stuff. You can see the Pinterest board here.

Our family loves alpacas, so when I saw this fabric I had to get a yard. Sarah decided she would be the one to sew it. We helped ourselves to a yard of fabric at my mom's house and although I helped her cut and pin it, Sarah sewed the entire thing by herself. I have a feeling it will be Audrey's favorite blanket.

Since we've started putting her room together it has become a favorite hang out. Probably because it's always clean, and I also like the "Agreeable Grey" we painted the walls. It's a very bright and happy looking room.

Since this was Adam's room before Audrey's, we had to take down his treasures. He moved into Steven's room a couple years ago, because they liked to share, but we'd kept most of his stuff in his room. These are some paintings he did when we first moved in. The most important thing we left are the "Monster Claw Marks" from right after we moved in. We painted over them, but made sure not to patch them first.

I had seen floral letters on Amazon and Etsy, but I didn't want to spend $60-80 on one. I figured I could probably (maybe) make my own. I bought some flowers and presentation board and made a first one. My sister Ashley told me it was too skinny and the pinks were too dark. I went back to the store and bought more flowers (still saved money, but certainly wasn't cheap) and made one she approved of. I won't lie, I felt pretty crafty.

Each of my kids has a primary song I sing to them more than other's. Sarah's is "A Child's Prayer, Steven's is "I love to see the temple", and Adam's is "Families are Forever". I decided Audrey's will be "I am like a star". I found the perfect print on Etsy, and some others that go along with it.

I found the fabric on babybedding.com and used it to make a valance, add to the bottom of her curtains, blanket, car seat cover and car seat blanket. I bought some extra so I can eventually make her a quilt like Sarah's, but that will be a while.

I know all of these will have to be removed before she can sleep in it, but it's fun to see them. The big owl will be the one we take pictures of her next to. (That's now a thing if you didn't know) My neighbor Kathleen made me the cute "Audrey" pillow that matches her room perfectly.

The other day I went into Audrey's room to vacuum and saw a tail sticking out of her car seat. Apparently Steven had put her in there before he went to school and she stayed there all...day...long. I backed out of the room and allowed her some alone time in her hole. :)

Mike took out Adam's old fan and put Sarah's in. (Sarah needed a bigger fan) Adam gave moral support.

Now we just wait, impatiently. I'll snap a picture of all the toys she's accumulated in her crib. We're all just a little bit excited to meet her.
