Overcoming fears- The Diving Dude

Steven has had a fear of water for at least a year. He used to be fearless, but he had a scare at a pool and ever since he always stays in the three foot zone. The pool on base has two slides and a diving board but you have to be able to swim to use them. Sarah took the test her first time at the pool but Steven said he wasn't interested. He doesn't want to appear scared, so he just says he doesn't want to.

A few weeks ago we were at the pool with some friends that Steven really likes. Their support and encouragement was apparently all he needed. (Mom and Dad encouragement/bribes were not enough) They got him to jump off the diving board and swim to the edge and after that he just did it over and over again every time we went.

I'm proud of Steven for over coming his fear. I know why he was scared and it was a valid fear, but I'm glad that what was once terrifying for him is now something he loves. Thank you Mitch and Alex for helping Steven.
